Practice:

I am a Licensed Psychologist in White Plains, NY (Westchester County).  I began my practice in 1995 and was primarily treating adolescents and adults.  My training had been in psychodynamic psychotherapy and while this approach was useful for many people I found that for individuals with a more complex set of problems it was less than effective.  I had been aware of Dialectical Behavior Therapy since my time working at New York Hospital while in graduate school where it was being developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan.  As I began working more with adolescents and adults with multiple problems it became clear that DBT was the treatment of choice for these individuals.

After receiving my DBT intensive training I began doing individual as well as skills group work with adolescents and adults.  Additionally I work with families and train them in the DBT skills.  One of the most important and unique aspects of this treatment is phone coaching.  I provide my cell phone number and to clients and suggest skills they could use in difficult moments which greatly helps people generalize what they learn in my office to their lives.

I believe my non-judgmental and accepting stance creates a safe environment for therapy.  This is balanced with an energy that helps push my clients toward the changes they desire.  I work with people who have a variety of problems including suicidal thoughts and behavior, self-injuring behavior, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders and anger management problems.  I have been so rewarded by the growth I see in so many of my clients through DBT skills training and usage.
